15U Indiana Prospects Champions of the 2010 15U BCS
by Jim Tucker posted 07/13/2010

The Indiana Prospects are now champions of the 2010 15U BCS Finals thanks to a stellar pitching performance from the tournament's most valuable pitcher, Brennan Milby.  Milby (2013, Greensburg, KY) shut down the Hurricane offense.  He pitched a complete game, (7 innings) allowing one run on eight hits.  He struck out two and walked one batter.  Milby pitched to contact and let his defense to the work behind him.

Brennan Milby: Most Valuable Pitcher (Tournament Stats) 2 W, 2 CG, 12 IP, 10 H, 2 R, 6 K - 1.50 ERA

Although Milby allowed eight hits, the Hurricane offense was never able to string them together to score runs, and they didn't have an extra base hit in the game.  Milby's control was nearly perfect, as he walked just one batter.

Walks killed the Hurricane pitching staff.  They walked eight batters, and four of the batters who reached base by a walk ended up scoring, giving the Prospects a free swing of momentum early on in the game.

First basemen Joe Dudek, (2013, Wall Township, NJ) the tournament MVP, got things started for the Prospect offense.  Dudek drove in two runs on a double in the first inning.  He ended up going 2-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBI.

Joe Dudek: Most Valuable Player (Tournament Stats) 14-25, .560 BA, (6) 2B, 11 R, 11 RBI

Center fielder Nolan Rogers (2013, Bloomington, IN) batted lead off for the Prospects.  He went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, two RBI and two walks.

For the St. Pete Hurricanes, who struggled offensively managing to plate just one run, the only RBI came from a third inning sac fly to center field by right fielder Cornelius Copeland (2013, St. Pete, FL).  Copeland also had a single in the game.  Lead off man and center fielder Brett Phillips (2012, Seminole, FL) went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

DePauw University Lands Three More Prospects 18U Players
by Jim Tucker posted 05/21/2010

The Indiana Prospects organization is proud to announce that DePauw University head baseball coach, Jake Martin, has signed current Indiana Prospects 18U players Casey Devlin, Ryan Heeb and Zach Starr.  They are joining earlier signee Paul Mpistolarides.  Coach Martin, is thrilled with his class of incoming Prospects players.

“We are very excited about this group of student-athletes.  They are all committed to being great on the field and in the classroom.  They all come from winning high school and summer programs (Indiana Prospects) and have very high baseball IQs.  Each player brings something unique to our program and we are excited to blend their talents with our current roster to continue our winning tradition at DePauw University.”  Congratulations to these young men as they continue their baseball journey at the collegiate level!

Casey Devlin, a left-handed pitcher from Cathedral HS, currently posts a 3-0 record with 35 strikeouts in 23 innings and a 3.91 ERA this season for the Irish, currently the #1 ranked team in the state of Indiana.

Ryan Heeb, a 6-foot, 175-pound IF/OF from Bloomington North HS, is enjoying a very solid season, both at the plate and on the field, helping lead the Cougars to a #8 state ranking.

VETERAN INDIANA PROSPECT 18U PLAYER COMMITS
by Jim Tucker posted 05/20/2010

Paul “Pistol” Mpistolarides, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound, middle infielder from Bishop Chatard high school committed to DePauw University. Pistol missed most of the 2009 high school season with a hand injury.  As the longest tenured Prospects player on the 18U roster (2005), Pistol is a testament to our organization’s Mission Statement of “…through our organization, each player will acquire the necessary experience to succeed at the high school level…”

During the 2009 summer season with the 17U Prospects, Pistol really began to come into his own.  Paul’s hard work off the field in both the weight room and the batting cage is paying huge dividends.  Paul is currently hitting .350 during the 2010 high school season, with an on-base percentage of .475.  The Indiana Prospects wish Paul all the best at DePauw!

INDIANA PROSPECTS 18U OF BARTLEMAN PICKS COLLEGE CHOICE
by Jim Tucker posted 05/20/2010

Connor Bartelman, a senior outfielder for the Culver Academies, has decided to continue his baseball career at the University of Chicago. The strong-armed right fielder is finishing his fourth varsity baseball season for the Eagles. Bartelman has quick hands, and as a mainstay in the middle of the line-up, he has been a leader at the plate. During his junior campaign, Bartelman hit .388, with a SLG of .567, an OBS of .456, and drove in 19 runs. He has hit at a .393 clip for his career.

However, it has been the work in the classroom that has enabled this unique opportunity to attend one of the world’s most prestigious universities. Kurt Christiansen, head baseball coach at the Culver Academies, says “Connor is a leader on and off the field. He leads in the classroom too. I believe his hard work as a student athlete has afforded him this special opportunity. Not only has he taken advantage of Culver and prepared himself academically, but he has improved as a baseball player by playing the best competition all summer…”

PROSPECT U18 PLAYER COMMITS
posted 02/27/2010

The first Indiana Prospect from the class of 2010 has made his college choice.  Charlie Kolisek, a power-hitting first baseman from Roncalli, has committed to Wabash College to play football and baseball. Kolisek is a multitalented athlete, who’s a TE/DL on the football team, hit .395 last season for the Rebels.

Kolisek, in his second season with the Indiana Prospects, will use his "power to all fields", athletic footwork and arm strength to help the Giants baseball program.  Coach Stevens, on speaking of Charlie's commitment to Wabash, "We're excited to have Charlie with us and I'm sure he will do some good things at Wabash".  Kolisek's commitment is the first of what will be many college commits for the Indiana Prospects 2010 class.

Dillon Peters Commits to the University of Texas
by Nat Newell - Indy Star posted 12/16/2009

Cathedral High School junior pitcher Dillon Peters followed the University of Texas baseball team growing up but knew the program seldom needed to recruit outside the state — let alone bring in a player from Indiana — so he didn’t expect to get the chance to play there.

But the Longhorns started recruiting Peters midway through last season and, after several campus visits, the left-hander was offered a scholarship and committed late last month.

“(The baseball players) were treated differently than everybody else,” said Peters, who was also considering Vanderbilt and Arizona. “It’s not like football was the main sport like at other (major universities). Baseball is up there with everybody else and you have a chance to win (the national championship) every year.”

Texas is one of college baseball’s premier programs, playing in the College World Series 32 times and winning national championships in 1949, ’50, ’75, ’83, 2002 and ’05.

Peters, a Fishers resident, was 7-0 with a 0.46 ERA and struck out 78 in 451/3 innings as a freshman for the Irish, then went 10-1 with a 0.99 ERA and 112 strikeouts last season. He was recruited as a pitcher but is also one of Cathedral’s top hitters, batting .495 with 10 doubles, four home runs and 33 RBIs last season.

“We’ll wait and see,” Peters said when asked about potentially being selected in the major league draft after his senior year of high school. “I’ll do whatever the best opportunity is, (but) right now, Texas is where it’s at.”
